I started journaling, Saturday. It lasted two days. Maybe this will last longer, or maybe some combination of the two. I do enough note writing in class, my poor little finger needs a break. This is definitely easier, but makes me feel like I need to say something significant, something important, something...well, obviously not something that I have.
Anywho, what am I doing? Good question? I don't know. What do I want to do? Ummm...don't really know that one either. I guess I will just start with day stuff.
Today my husband is sick. Which sucks. One, because I love him dearly and I hate it when he feels bad or is hurt. Secondly, because he whines (Loudly) about every 10 seconds and is like a small child. I really feel bad for him, but day 2 of this is wearing on my nerves. I want my husband back! What else happened today? Class, home with sicky, class, class, girl time.
I got together with my new/old friend/cousin of my husband. So, it's kind of complicated, but let's be honest what isn't? We went to Panera. We talked, we laughed, maybe we cried a little. It feels so good to have girl talk with a girl. Girl talk with my husband goes something like this.
"Urgh, baby. My stomach hurts. I hate having a period."
"And?"
"That's all"
"Oh, ok"
I mean, what do I have to do to get some sympathy around here?! Girl time is much more productive in all lady departments. Acknowledgment, agreement, comparisons, advice. Win. We met with some what of an intention to talk about our spiritual lives, it was more about girl stuff and our lives. It was wonderful. Having sisters in Christ is such a blessing.
Which leads me to my next topic. God. He's a guy that I thought that I knew all about, basically all my life. Born and breed Southern Baptist, which makes me cringe a little. They do some good and some strange things. Off topic. I've drifted and maybe I have even run at times away from this guy that I thought I knew all about. Why would I do that? What kind of sense does that make? Well, knowing what I do know about God, well it doesn't make any sense. However, not making sense has never stopped me before. Also, it lead me to the conclusion that maybe I don't know exactly who God is and if I'm going to continue to live my life in a way that says "I am a Christ-follower" then I need to be just that. In order to do that I decided I needed to figure out not just who God is, but what does He want me to do? Why am I here? Thus, my journey begins.
In my deeply theological approach to these questions I began by going to www.biblegateway.com and typing in the search box: "God is..." First result on the page The Book of Isaiah. So, I decided ok, good enough for me. Click. Read chapter 1 of Isaiah. I realize that the context of Old Testament books are really important, but I decided just to jump in. Probably not my best idea of the day...probably not the worst either. Today I read chapter 2, still haven't read the context although I know it generally. Chapter 2 is mostly about what will happen when the day of the LORD comes. Jews believe this is when the Savior comes, and Christians believe that this is what is to come in Jesus' second coming. (Side note: My History of Jewish Studies professor from last semester had a quote that I don't think I will ever forget. "People get so worried and argue so much about whether Jesus is the Messiah or if we are still waiting. Seems like the answer could be solved much easier if we just wait till the Messiah shows up and ask if he's been here before." It doesn't seem nearly as funny now.) The chapter talks of the judgment and peace that is to come,
"He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore."
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore."
Jews point to this passage as evidence that Jesus was not the Messiah. Pretty good argument. Christian theology is based on the Old AND New Testament. Giving room for all this to happen during the end of times, when Jesus comes back a second time. The "second" coming, to my knowledge, is not an Old Testament concept. I'm not arguing for Judaism here, I'm just saying that I can see where they are coming from.
I think that is all for today.
